Some digital/viral/social buzz that really took off, and an early indicator of the power of social media.

If you don’t remember, Todd Akin was a very earnest, but very uninformed, Senate candidate from Missouri. He went on a local talk show and really put his foot in it, vis a vis women’s reproductive health, saying “It seems to me first of all, from talking to doctors, if it’s a legitimate rape, the woman’s body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

I made the first few memes, and set up a Tumblr and a Twitter Account. It got hundreds of submissions, over a million views, and written up in Jezebel, Uproxx, Mashable, Complex, the Riverfront Times, and even got its own page on Know Your Meme.

The coolest thing that happened was a friend of mine in SF sent the link to me, not knowing I was doing it, just asking if I’d seen it.
